Wordless Wednesday: Antibiotic Tests

Did you know dairy farms test for antibiotics on farm? Shown here are 2 samples from 2 cows in our herd.  The yellow sample is a cow that is negative for antibiotics, and will return to the milking herd, producing milk for consumers.  The purple sample is a cow that tested positive for antibiotics and will NOT return to the milking herd.  She will remain in the sick cow pen, where her milk is dumped and NEVER used for human consumption!  Milk is tested 17 times before it reaches the consumers!

  1. Very nice! :) Do you test your own, or does someone come in and test for you? It's nice that the Lord has allowed science to come up with all these tests we can do on our own to help keep our herds and our products clean. Even a simple Mastitis test... it can work wonders! Ok, now 17 times! you've got to be kidding! ;) My best!

  2. Carra: We do test our own. We own the inncubator and purchase the test vials. Yes, science is a blessing! Yes, Milk is tested 17 times, mostly for quality and antibiotics, making sure milk is safe for consumption.

I write this blog to share my passion for my cows and farming, please be respectful of that. I reserve the right to delete those comments which portray hate, call names, and are out right disrespectful. If you have an honest question, I will respond, to explain what we do on our farm, why we do it and how we do it. Please read with an open mind. My time to blog is short, as most of our days are spent caring for our beloved cows. Thank you!
