Vote for US-Progressive Dairyman Flavor Face Off 2011

Do you love Ice Cream? Would you enjoy $100 in FREE ice cream?!?!  Well, I have a deal for you....vote for me in the 2011 Flavor Face Off for Progressive Dairyman and enter to win!  Who could say no to a delicious serving of South Dakota State University Raspberry Cheesecake?   Little known fact, South Dakota State is credited for the development of Cookies and Cream Ice Cream, now the college has over 50 different flavors, many of which feature delicious treats from South Dakota's hard working farmers.

Milk from cows like these is used to make delicious Raspberry Cheesecake Ice Cream.

Milk for SDSU's awesome ice cream comes from cows on the SDSU Research farm.  Milk comes from Holstien and Brown Swiss cows.  Student workers care for these cows everyday.  Once the milk is loaded on to the truck, it moves swiftly to campus, where the plant will be ready to receive it.  At the plant, many student workers and expereinced professionals, work quickly to recieve the milk, to make not only ice cream, but cheese, and fluid milk (bulk only).  Rest assured that these students are greatly prepared before setting foot in the plant.  Now many graduates of SDSU, including me, return for this delicious treat!

Your vote is greatly appreciated!  So if you haven't, .......

Busy, but good recipe to share!

Holy smokes we have been busy, I haven't posted in so long! Between calves, cows, new cows, and dairy princess stuff it's been a whirlwind at the farm. I did get a chance to do some baking the other day-something quick and easy, but very tasty, so I thought I would share the recipe:

Peach and Raspberry Crisp
-6 cups peeled and sliced Peaches (I used ones that I froze from last year)
-2 cups Raspberries (I also used ones from last year that I froze)
-2 tablespoons Orange Zest
-1 1/2 cups Brown Sugar
-2 cups White Sugar
-1 cup Oatmeal
-1 cup Flour plus 2-3 tablespoons
-1 cup Butter

Toss peaches with Orange Zest, 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, 1 cup White Sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of flour. Let sit until juices thicken. Add more flour if needed. Gently toss in raspberries. Pour into the bottom of a 9 X 13 greased pan. Mix butter, remaining flour (1 cup), oatmeal (1 cup), Brown Sugar (1/2 cup), White Sugar (1 cup). Pour dry mixture over the top of the fruit layer. Gently press, and bake in a 350 oven for 1 hour.

Best served warm with vanilla ice cream on top and a tall glass of milk!!!!

Celebrating June Dairy Month!!!

Just thought I would put a reminder out there to everyone, to celebrate June Dairy Month!

What a great month, to honor the hard work that dairy farmers do, producing a safe wholesome product while working to protect their environments and caring for their cows.

Not only do we work on our farms but we also live here, Dairy farming is our way of life.

Please enjoy a glass of milk, slice of cheese, cup of yogurt, or even a cone of your favorite ice cream, and help me celebrate the greatest month of the year....June Dairy Month!!!!
